After missing out on the 13-member Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s squad for the Dubai 7s this week, Mereani Solevu is not giving up just yet.
She said she is working on strengthening her fitness regimen as she will keep fighting for a spot in the future legs of the 2024/2025 HSBC SVNS World Series.
The rover, who hails from Vatoa, Bau in Tailevu was present at the Get Into Rugby (GIR) Plus Festival which took place at Bidesi Park, in Laucala Bay, Suva recently and shared her sentiments.
“My target is to work on my fitness as we prepare for the Oceania 7s.
Solevu said the side in Dubai would give its best shot at the tournament.
“I just want to ask the players to give their best, and hold hands together since it’s not an easy journey to make but a difficult one,” Solevu stressed.
She also reiterated the only way to strengthen themselves as a team was through compassion and perseverance.
Solevu was part of the extended training squad assembled a month before preparing themselves for the series.
Despite her absence from the team, she was present at Bidesi Ground for the GIR Plus Festival to meet young rugby players.
Solevu urged the young players to continue progressing in the sport.
“They need to work on themselves in training and their fitness and it will be easier for them to progress to higher levels of rugby here in the country,” she said.
Meanwhile, her fellow players in Dubai play against Ireland in their first match at 5.44pm on November 30.
