THREE REnew Pacific projects designed to promote renewable energy in Fiji and other regional countries were announced at this week’s pre-COP31 Summit in Nadi.
The projects include the REnew Pacific’s Time Foundation supported solar model for Fijian remote schools, the installation of solar and battery systems in five remote schools in Tinputz through Save the Children and the Autonomous Bougainville Government’s Department of Education, and the implementation of pay-as-you-go solar home systems, streetlights and education in Bougainville through Sola PayGo and MiBank.
The projects are expected to benefit more than 75,000 people in remote parts of Fiji and Papua New Guinea where they are anticipated to gain access to clean and reliable electricity.
The projects take REnew Pacific’s portfolio to 13 locally led projects across seven countries that include Fiji, Kiribati, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and the Republic of the Marshall Islands.
The projects were announced at a special Pre-COP31 event Powering the Pacific: Electrification for Climate Resilience, Energy Security and Development which brought together Pacific and Australian leaders, communities and experts to explore how renewable energy can strengthen energy security, expand energy access and support development across the region.
