Fiji Bulikula Nanise Vakacavu charges forward against Samoa during the Pacific Bowl final at Go Media Stadium in Auckland, New Zealand Picture: FIJI BULIKULA

It was a tough loss for the Vodafone Fiji Bulikula side as they fell short against Fetu Samoa in the Pacific Bowl finals, losing 12-16 in Auckland, New Zealand yesterday.

The defeat shattered Fiji’s hopes of qualifying for the Women’s Rugby League World Cup.

Samoa started strong, scoring the first try and taking an early 4-0 lead. Fiji struggled to maintain possession and made crucial errors, however, they managed to take a 12-4 lead heading to the break. Despite their best efforts, Fiji’s defence was eventually breached by Samoa, who scored again to narrow the gap to 12-10.

And as the clock ticked down, Fiji struggled to hold off Samoa’s attacks, with the opposition breaking through once more for a decisive try, securing a 16-12 victory.

The highlight was a victorious double for Samoan skipper Annetta-Claudia Nu’uausala yesterday. While it was a heartbreaking outcome for the Bulikula side, they showed determination and resilience throughout the match.
