Update: 1:22PM A TWO hour French dinner aimed at promoting the sharing of good food and friendship took place in Suva last night as part of a world wide simultaneous event which has earned UNESCO recognition.

The Gout de France or Good France, an international celebration involving 2000 chefs took place at French Ambassador Sujiro Seam’s official residence and included a seven course dinner for 25 guests.

Ambassador Seam said the event was contrary the fast food of modern society and aimed at encouraging people to enjoy life together

Last night’s dinner began a series of French infusions in the menu of local fine dining restaurants which included Eden Restaurant, Grand Pacific Hotel and restaurants on two Denarau hotel properties.

The new French envoy hand-picked dinner guests to include senior government officials, owners of restaurants, the media and the heads of retail giants which import French ingredients. 

Executive chef Philippe Garand put together last night?s authentic French menu with assistance from his local colleagues at the Holiday Inn.
