Anisi Dalitabua has pleaded with women to seek help if they are assaulted by their spouses.

Having lost her twin sister, who was allegedly assaulted by her husband in Labasa last month, an emotional Ms Dalitabua told guests during a candlelight vigil that her sister went through a lot of difficult times with her husband.

Ms Dalitabua, who recently spoke at the Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre office in Labasa, said losing her sister was like losing half of her life.

“We were twins, we do everything together, we grew up together and even married into the same family but her loss had affected me a lot,” she said.

“I wouldn’t want any woman to go through what she went through.

Her children now have no mother and it saddens us because she didn’t deserve to die that way,” Ms Dalitabua said.

She wished she had known more about the help offered by the FWCC.

“If I had known, I would have taken my sister to them to be assisted and get her away from the violence she faced,” she said.

“No woman deserves such treatment from their husbands and I pray that God comforts children who have lost their mothers.”
