NAVUA will look to turn its recent lessons into a stronger performance when it meets a determined Tailevu Naitasiri side in the Extra Premier League Round 16 clash on Sunday.
Coach Rodicks Singh expects a demanding contest, with Tailevu Naitasiri fighting to keep its place in the competition and likely to bring plenty of intensity to the match.
“The preparations and expectations are both going to need to be very intense because we know we’re playing a side that is fighting for survival,” Singh said.
For Navua, the match presents an opportunity to build on its strengths while addressing areas that have prevented the team from producing consistent performances.
Singh believes his players have shown what they are capable of but wants them to find greater consistency from one match to the next.
“We’re not consistent. We win one week; we have come down with two losses back-to-back. We are not consistent in the way we want to play,” he said.
The coach said the focus now is on turning those lessons into improvement and ensuring the team maintains its intensity throughout the match.
Finishing strongly is another area Navua is working to improve.
“Our finishing part is still a very worrying factor. Our area of concern is how we finish the game,” Singh said.
He said the team has allowed its intensity to drop during the final 15 minutes of recent matches, giving opponents opportunities to take advantage.
“If you look at the past two games, it is the last part of the game that is really hurting us,” he said.
