SIGATOKA boxer Junior Binnu Singh is eager to make the most of his hometown opportunity when he faces New Zealand fighter Sander Aung in the main super bantamweight title fight during the Bluewater Boxing Promotion at Lawaqa Park on May 22-23.
On Friday, May 22, fans will witness two postponed bouts from last year’s event in Nadi, including the title fight between Alifereti Kauyaca and Savenaca Naliva, and the light-heavyweight clash between Kolinio Luvelolo and New Zealand fighter Kyan Hand. The program will run from 4pm to 6pm with free admission and gates opening at 3pm.
The main fight card will be staged on Saturday, May 23, featuring 15 bouts, headlined by Singh’s title showdown against Aung.
The 26-year-old said he was grateful to promoter Samir Khan for giving him the opportunity to fight in front of his home crowd.
“First of all, I would like to thank Bluewater Boxing promoter Mr Samir Khan for giving me this opportunity to fight in my hometown and I’m really looking forward to this fight,” Singh said.
Originally from Sigatoka and a former student of Sigatoka Methodist College, Singh said preparations have been going well.
“For my training, I train three times a day. We’ve been training from the last camp, and the training is still going good. We’re fit and we’re really looking forward to this fight.”
Singh expects a tough contest against the New Zealand boxer.
“For his boxing, I don’t know much about him but I’ve seen he’s got some good names. So, I think it’s going to be a good fight,” he said.
