THERE will be no music played on public buses during the Coca-Cola Games this year.

This was confirmed yesterday by Land Transport Authority road safety education and awareness team leader Gerald Nathan after an agreement was reached with the Fiji Bus Operations Association (FBOA).

Mr Nathan said passengers needed to act in an orderly manner while travelling on the road as bus drivers have the right to stop at a police station to report those who risk the safety of other passengers.

“The bus drivers have all the right to take the bus and stop at a police station and get the people accountable by taking them to task,” he said.

“Whether you are a youth or whether you are an adult, there are charges for all.

“Students will need to take responsibility and make their environment safe as they travel.”

At a press conference yesterday with the education, health and policing officials on the Coca-Cola Games Drug Free Initiative in Suva, Mr Nathan said in partnership with the police, the LTA wanted to ensure people’s safety on the roads.

“We want accident-free, fatal-free games where no one gets hurt or there is no accident or death on the road during this game period,” he said.
