WORKS at the Fiji Football Association Labasa Academy has reached a critical stage with a $2.3m investment involving its partnership with Heritage Fiji.
Fiji FA president Rajesh Patel during an announcement last Friday at it’s headquarters in Suva provided a key update on the academy, revealing significant progress in the project.
“People have been asking about our Labasa Academy where we have invested almost $6.3m,” he said.
The focus now shifts to the completion of the playing field which is an important component designed to meet international standards.
“The ground works that we were waiting for and needed to be world class FIFA standard. Today (yesterday) we are signing this ground works and grass plantation for the new ground in Labasa costing Fiji FA $2.3m,” Patel said.
This latest investment signifies a major step towards realizing the academy’s full potential.
“This agreement is with Heritage Fiji and our project will be implemented by August,” he added.
The $2.3 million project, funded through the FIFA Forward program, will see the development of two high-quality football grounds at the Fiji FA Academy in Labasa.
This initiative aims to enhance football infrastructure in the Northern Division and provide better facilities for player development.
The completion of the project is expected to be done in August with a focus on delivering top-quality facilities that will benefit players, coaches, and football enthusiasts in the region.
Fiji FA president Rajesh Patel anticipates that the ground will be used by November or December of this year.
The official opening will coincide with the visitation of FIFA officials later in the year.
This is one of the many development projects that the Fiji FA has planned in line with its goals of providing FIFA-standard facilities to all players.
