IT was a proud moment for the Biribo siblings as they were part of a group of students who were chosen to carry the responsibility of student leaders during the Deenbandhoo Memorial School prefects’ induction ceremony in Suva yesterday.

Almas Biribo was inducted as the school’s head girl while younger brother Daniyal was inducted the deputy head boy and Taha as the Year 6 class prefect for 2019.

Almas shed tears of joy as chief guest deputy commander Brigadier General Mohammed Aziz badged her at the Jai Narayan College school hall.

The third eldest of six siblings, Almas said she did not expect to be given the role to lead. “I was not the deputy head girl last year.

I think it was my leadership skills from last year as a school prefect that made the teachers choose me to lead this year,” said Almas.

Her younger brother Daniyal said he was happy to be chosen as the deputy head boy.

“I have been a class prefect from Year 1. It was my leadership skills in the classroom that made the teachers choose me to take up the role,” said

Daniyal Year 6 class prefect Taha thanked their parents for supporting them throughout their journey.

Proud mother Kinisimere Biribo said as a parent she could only do so much. “But today it portrays what we have been teaching them from home and we are very glad. They are such good children and very intelligent,” said Mrs Biribo.
