SHUT out the noise, keep your head up and keep moving forward!

It’s the crux of sevens maestro Waisale Serevi’s words to the Fiji Airways Fiji men’s 7s team as they run out for the Bordeaux 7s in France this weekend.

A seasoned rugby player whose performances on the field earned him the moniker of sevens maestro and inspired generations of aspiring rugby players with his brilliance on the field, Serevi encouraged the players to maintain the push towards success.

“Close your ears and don’t listen to the noise outside,” he said.

“Work hard, trust your coaches and keep moving forward.”

In a season where head coach Osea Kolinisau and his men have only won the Singapore 7s in January this year, Serevi’s words may be the catalyst to spark a sharp pivot for the national team.

Despite Fiji’s recent struggles, he remains positive that the side can bounce back and once again challenge for major titles on the World Rugby sevens series.

And as the nation draws its eyes to television sets and phone screens for the latest to unfold from Bordeaux, Serevi’s message to fans and supporters was a firm call for continued support.

“We are still supporting the boys; they are our boys and sevens is still our game,” he emphasised.

In the Championship standings of the HSBC SVNS series, Fiji sits at fourth place with 26 points while South Africa, their pool opponents, are first with 38 points.

Fiji is grouped in Pool A with the Springboks, Great Britain and Kenya.
