THE Republic of Fiji Navy has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting Fiji’s maritime domain as it prepares to mark its 51st anniversary and close the 2025–2026 financial year.

According to a Republic of Fiji Navy statement, more than 200 naval personnel took part in a ceremonial parade, highlighting the discipline, professionalism and shared responsibility required to safeguard Fiji’s maritime security, safety and sovereignty.

The statement highlighted that the parade was officiated by the Republic of Fiji Military Forces Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff, Brigadier General Motufaga.

In his address, Brigadier General Motufaga acknowledged the Navy’s work over the past year, recognising its contribution to maritime surveillance, search and rescue, maritime law enforcement, hydrographic support and whole-of-government operations.

He thanked personnel for their dedication and challenged them to maintain high standards of performance, readiness and professionalism.

The ceremony also set the stage for the official launch of the Fiji Navy Strategic Plan, which will guide the service’s development and operations over the next decade.

Individual and team achievements were recognised through the presentation of Navy medals and commendation awards.

Lieutenant Commander Wetealagi received a commendation for his calm leadership, dedication and professionalism while commanding patrol boats during several operational deployments.

The crew of RFNS Savenaca was also honoured for its search and rescue response in the Vatulele area.

Their timely deployment, teamwork and determination contributed to a successful rescue operation and reflected the Navy’s commitment to protecting lives at sea.

As the Fiji Navy approaches 51 years of service, the parade underscored the importance of operational readiness, capable personnel and a long-term strategy to meet Fiji’s growing maritime challenges.
