AN investigation will be carried out regarding a fire aboard a passenger vessel at Suva’s Port Mua-i-Walu on Monday.

The Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji (MSAF) is aware of the incident involving Goundar Shipping Ltd’s vessel, Lomaiviti Princess VIII, which caught fire earlier in the day.

In a statement, MSAF said it would be working to determine the cause of the blaze and gather further details surrounding the incident.

While the extent of damage and any potential injuries were not immediately confirmed, the authority indicated that updates would be provided as more information becomes available.

The incident has raised concerns over vessel safety at one of Suva’s busiest port areas, as authorities continue their investigation.
