A shipment of essential medicines due to arrive at the Nadi International Airport today will bring the contribution of the Savusavu Community Foundation (SCF) to assisting Fijian lives at more than $100 million in contributions.

SCF chairman Ken Barasch confirmed the shipment will arrive via an overnight Fiji Airways flight from Los Angeles.

He said it was obtained from Direct Relief, one of the largest humanitarian charitable organisations in the world.

He said the goods would add to the earlier shipments this year, including $301,000 worth of personal protective equipment in June and $10.7 million worth of essential medicines in January – bringing the foundation’s contribution to Fijian lives since its founding in 2003 to over $100 million.

“This shipment includes 21 pallets, with six pallets worth over $680,000 wholesale going directly to Savusavu Hospital and four pallets worth over $3,700,000 going to Labasa Hospital,” he said.

“The balance of 11 pallets worth $6.2 million are going for distribution throughout the country.”

He thanked Direct Relief’s director of program operations Genevieve Bitter for their continuous support of SCF and Fiji.

SCF was formed by Mr Barasch and his wife Donna to provide healthcare, education, community, environmental, disaster relief and cultural preservation support to the people around Savusavu and throughout Fiji.

He is currently in California where he coordinates all activities of the SFC.
