Seven sports have been confirmed to represent Fiji at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, France.
Team Fiji chef de mission Sale Sorovaki confirmed this during the Olympic Day celebration at Albert Park in Suva yesterday where he also announced Team Fiji’s long list.
The seven sports are rugby 7s men and women, athletics, Judo, Swimming, Table Tennis, Taekwondo and Yachting.
Waisake Tewa is the lone athletics representative and Gerard Takayawa for Judo.
In swimming, Hansel McCaig, David Young, Kelera Mudunasoko and Anahira McCutcheon have been listed while Sophia Morgan and Viliame Ratulu have qualified for yachting.
Lolohea Naitasi and Venice Traill make up the Taekwondo team while Wang Qi and Vicky Wu are in for Table Tennis.
“This is the long list, all the team sports still have to go through their respective sports qualification and criteria,” Sorovaki said.
As per jurisdiction, FASANOC is opening a 48-hour window for athletes and team officials to appeal.
“As per FASANOC selection justification policy, athletes and team officials have the opportunity to appeal their cases if they feel they have been unfairly deprived of the opportunity to represent their sport or country as a member of a Fiji representative team under the jurisdiction of FASANOC,” he explained.
The date of appeal will close on Tuesday, June 25 at 5pm.
“The appellant should appeal in writing clearly stating the reasons for the appeal within 48 hours of the announcement of the decision against which the appeal is made. The FASANOC Appeals Tribunal will handle the matter.,” Sorovaki added.
Team Fiji will present its itatau next Friday and the Fiji men’s 7s is expected to leave the country first on July 1.
Taekwondo will follow on July 2 while the bulk of Team Fiji will depart on July 11.
