Seven bars of cocaine linked to a high-profile drug case have allegedly gone missing from the Suva High Court exhibit room, prompting an investigation by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).
Assistant Commissioner of Police Crime Loraini Seru confirmed that a physical inspection of the exhibits was conducted on Tuesday, in the presence of senior judiciary officials, a senior representative from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, Police officers and a Crime Scene Investigations officer who documented the inspection.
ACP Seru said the inspection found that exhibits connected to the case had allegedly been tampered with.
Police also discovered that seven bars were missing from the original 39 bars of cocaine exhibited to the Suva High Court and kept in its exhibit room.
A CID team has now been tasked with investigating the circumstances surrounding the alleged tampering and disappearance of the exhibits.
Police have not disclosed when the seven bars were last accounted for or when they are believed to have gone missing.
Investigations are continuing.
