Oposition Leader Inia Seruiratu says they will not rest and will ensure that justice is given to the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) acting Deputy Commissioner Francis Puleiwai who resigned from her post yesterday.
He said the matter needed to be investigated thoroughly.
“I have three important questions that I want to raise,” Mr Seruiratu said.
“One, she (Ms Puleiwai) did state that she has already given an advice and she was told to hold on to the laying of the charges. So, we want to know who gave those instructions to her.
“Two, the Attorney-General has given a statement as well. I want to know why the Attorney-General has not stated that Barbara Malimali is currently on a COC (Constitutional Offices Commission) contract signed by the President, as the chairman of the Electoral Commission.
“She is still in an active contract. And why has she been considered for that post, if she has not resigned.
“We need an explanation from the Attorney-General on that.
“And the third major question that I have is why is this still being pursued when there is clear evidence that there are some things that really need to be thoroughly investigated.”
He said this was not an issue to be taken lightly.
“Because of the role that the institution plays, and particularly, that we want to show Fiji and the whole world that we are holding on to the principles of democratic governance and of course the rule of law.
“Most importantly, I’ve stated this before, we need to create an environment to bring investor confidence because if they don’t have faith in our governance system, particularly in terms of maintenance of law and order, the rule of law, then we are going to lose investors, which we better need for employment, for all the obvious reasons.” || Seruiratu says they will not rest and will || ensure that justice is given to Ms Puleiwai.
