Seruiratu turns up the heat, says judiciary must face scrutiny and CoI report must be fully released

Leader of Opposition Inia Seruiratu has called on Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka to release the full, unredacted version of the Commission of Inquiry (CoI) report to the Civil Service Commission chair.

In a statement, Mr Seruiratu said the time for protecting senior officials has passed.

“No redactions, no excuses, no more silence. The time for shielding senior officials has passed. The people deserve clarity, the institutions demand accountability, and the truth must be acted upon,” he said.

“The Registrar-General, the Solicitor-General, and others named in this debacle are civil servants, and under Section 126(1) of the Constitution and the Public Service Act, they must now face disciplinary proceedings through the established process, without fear or favour.”

Mr Seruiratu said he’s urging President Naiqama Lalabalavu to initiate the tribunal process that will allow for the assessment of Chief Justice Salesi Temo.

“I further urge the President to act decisively by initiating the tribunal process, under section 111 of the Constitution, to assess the conduct of the Chief Justice. His case is not peripheral, it is paramount.

“The judiciary must remain above reproach, and when the integrity of the law itself is in question, delay becomes decay.”

Mr Seruiratu said that while the Attorney-General has already been removed, a move he described as a “necessary first step”, questions remain about the continued tenure of others whose roles were reportedly scrutinised in the Commission’s findings.

“One cannot pull the matchstick and leave the fuel untouched. Three of this nation’s highest legal officers remain in place, their credibility compromised, their accountability unresolved.

“This is not a call for vengeance, it is a call for justice, consistency, and the courage to match principles with action.”

Questions have been sent to Mr Rabuka who is currently on a high-level trip in Australia. He is expected to return next week Tuesday.
