THE Opposition is not the enemy of the State.
The comment by Opposition Leader Inia Seruiratu follows his announcement that the Opposition was undergoing a rebranding initiative aimed at making it more accessible and relevant.
“After serving two terms as a government minister and now as Leader of the Opposition, I’ve been reflecting on the nature of politics in Fiji,” Mr Seruiratu said, adding the initiative was designed to help people better understand the role of the Opposition.
“We want to connect more with the people, to show them how the Opposition serves them and supports good governance.
“Also, in contributing to national development through constructive criticism and oversight.”
Mr Seruiratu said the public’s understanding of the Opposition’s role remains limited, and this rebranding initiative was aimed at changing that.
“This is also about representation.
“We are here to be the voice of the people in Parliament. That means listening to their concerns but also hearing what they are happy with.”
Mr Seruiratu said the rebranding effort was not just a political exercise but part of a broader vision to build a stronger and more sustainable democracy in Fiji.
“We’re still shaping our democracy.
“The Opposition has a responsibility to contribute positively, and that starts with making sure people know who we are and what we stand for.”
He said he had sought assistance from Speaker Filimone Jitoko to support the initiative, including funding.
