Leader of the Opposition, Inia Seruiratu said the desecration of the Samabula Shiv Mandir is not just a crime, but an affront to the values that bind us as one people.
He said in Fiji, we believe in respect, in dignity, and in living side by side as brothers and sisters, regardless of race, religion or colour.
“Every Fijian deserves the freedom to worship in peace, and when that peace is violated, as it was here, it shakes the moral foundation of our nation,” he said.
“We must respond with more than condemnation; we must lead by example.”
“Leadership demands moral clarity. Let our words reflect our values, and our actions affirm the sacredness of every faith.”
“To our Hindu community, your pain is real, and your grief is shared.”
“I stand with you, as do countless Fijians across all faiths who recognize this act for what it is, a betrayal of who we are.”
Mr Seruiratu added teachings by Jesus Christ was “love your neighbour as yourself.”
“That commandment is not just a religious teaching, it is a foundation for how we must live together.”
“Let this tragedy be a turning point, a moment where we choose unity over division, humanity over hatred, and respect over intolerance.”
