Seniors claim Probert Trophy

THE Fiji Senior Golfers team scooped the Roger Probert Trophy after amassing 701 points at the Fiji Golf Club in Suva on Saturday.

The hosts finished second with 695 points.

There were 110 starters, an indication of the large turnout of golfers present at the event.

In the men’s category, Paul Bennion scooped first place with 39 points, James Raman was second on a countback of 38 points with Gyanesh Reuben and Sunil Sharma.

In the ladies category, Lusiana Leqa won top honours with 39 points on a comeback with Elizabeth Bennett.

Susan Yee finished third with 34 points and Kamini Singh came in fourth with 33 points.

Pawan Reddy and Faizal Haniff were NTP (nearest to the pin) on the fifth and 12th holes respectively. Carlos. O was the male player with the most golf amassing seven points and Mua Rawlinson for the women with 14 points. Aarav Nand scored 40 points for the juniors.

The tournament was played in a Stableford format with teams having a minimum of three players and a maximum of five.

The competition continued its annual tradition of paying tribute to the late Roger Probert, who was an accomplished golfer and businessman who founded Fiji Gas in 1956.
