Year 12 and Year13 students around the country have returned to school and many are excited to resume classes after more than six months.
Adi Cakobau School student Nanise Naliva on Monday said she was excited to return to school after a long school break.
The 17-year-old student who resides in Ba said since there were many restrictions in place with COVID-19 she was worried about school and what next year holds for her.
“Zoom classes and having access to worksheets were a challenge since I live in Ba,” she
said.
“Sending hard copies through to a school was difficult and most of the time I would be behind because the copies were not printed on time.”
She said even though her family had a laptop at home she also faced the issue of bad internet connection.
Now late worksheets and not being able to attend zoom classes is a thing of the past as she attends her classes again at school.
Minister for Education Premila Kumar said she was delighted to welcome Years 12 and 13 students back to their classes after six and a half months.
“We know that face to face learning is vital for the academic achievement, mental and physical health, and overall well-being of our students,”
she said.
“I also want to express my heartfelt thanks for the incredible strength and resilience shown by our students, teachers, ministry staff, parents and guardians during this challenging period.
“Their collective effort assisted students to continue with their learning remotely using digital platforms and weekly home study packages.”
She also asked parents and guardians to please ensure that children who were not feeling well to not attend school.
“I thank our students for coming out in numbers for vaccination. Although vaccination for students is not mandatory, we are urging students who are not vaccinated to please get vaccinated for their safety and for the safety of others
“This is an important term for you as you complete your 2021 syllabus and prepare for your external examinations.
“I expect you to study hard and obtain good marks to make your entry into tertiary and technical institutions easier. Good marks will qualify you for the Toppers Scheme, as well as TELS. I encourage you to take full advantage of the face-to-face interactions with your teachers.”
