Seismic activity recorded in Suva region

A 5.0 MAGNITUDE earthquake was recorded in the Suva region on Saturday.

The Seismology Unit of the Mineral Resources department reported the earthquake that was recorded at 6.52pm occurred at a depth of 553km.

It stated the seismic activity was reported  689km Southwest from Nuku’alofa in Tonga; 1264km Southwest from Alofi, Niue; and 836km South-Southeast from Suva.

The moderate earthquake with deep depth did not pose any immediate threat to the region.
