TWO families in Ba can now look forward to greater security and stability after receiving new homes through the Government’s Rural Housing Assistance Program.

Minister for Rural and Maritime Development Mosese Bulitavu recently commissioned two rural housing projects in Ba, for Ganga Prasad and fellow recipient Jone Lotawa.

For Mr Prasad, the new home means having a place of his own and greater security for his family, as he had been living with his brother at Wailailai Settlement, outside Ba Town.

“All my life I have never owned a house,” he said.

“For more than 20 years I lived in my brother’s house, and I never thought that one day I would have a home of my own.

“Through the assistance from the Government under the Rural Housing Assistance Program, that dream has finally come true.”

Mr Lotawa said while renting had provided his family with a place to live, owning a home had given them a greater sense of stability and independence.

“Nothing compares to the freedom of owning your own home,” he said.

“For more than a decade, my family and I were renting, and we had to deal with the uncertainties that came with being tenants.”

“Today, that has changed. We finally have a house that belongs to our family.”

Minister Mosese Bulitavu said the two housing projects demonstrated Government’s commitment to improving living conditions for vulnerable families in rural communities.

Both recipients received assistance under Scheme 3 of the RHA Program. Under the scheme, applicants contribute one-sixth of the total project cost, while the Government covers the remaining five-sixths.

The RHA Program provides housing assistance to vulnerable rural households to help improve their living conditions through safe, durable, and adequate homes.
