Telecom Fiji Ltd is now Fiji’s second reseller of Starlink’s satellite broadband Internet services following an agreement signed between the two parties.
The telecom company, a subsidiary of Amalgamated Telecom Holdings, issued a statement yesterday on plans to use Starlink’s Low Earth Orbit technology to expand its footprint across Fiji.
“Through this agreement, Telecom Fiji will be able to significantly expand its service footprint and offer high-speed internet access to a wider range of customers in Fiji. This includes businesses, rural communities, schools, health centers, and government departments,” it stated.
“Starlink’s advanced technology utilises its network of low Earth orbit satellites to deliver high-speed internet access to users all over the world. This innovative solution will seamlessly integrate with Telecom’s existing technology portfolio, providing a comprehensive range of connectivity and digital solutions tailored for the local market.”
Telecom Fiji is the sole operator of Fiji’s domestic fibre optic telecommunication network, available only in the main urban centres on Viti Levu and Vanua Levu due to geographical limitations. It complements it with a combination of microwave and satellite technologies.
“Working with Starlink is a significant milestone for Telecom,” said Telecom Fiji’s chief executive officer Charles Goundar.
“This collaboration allows us to bring advanced satellite technology to the most remote parts of Fiji, ensuring that every business and community can thrive in the digital age. Starlink service will complement our other product capability allowing us to offer innovative business solutions”.
The company, now an authorized reseller of Starlink for maritime, businesses and rural connectivities, was preceded by Lightspeed Fiji Pte Ltd, who became Fiji’s first reseller after its agreement with Starlink early this month.
