Fiji Bati Rugby League extended squad member Pio Seci has set his target on going one step up this year.

The only local player selected during the 2017 Rugby League World Cup, Seci said it was a big year for him.

“It is a very big year for me, and I can’t let this opportunity slip by,” Seci said.

“I had made the squad in 2017, and I know with the Almighty on my side, I can do it again, but I know it will take a lot of hard work and sacrifice.”

The 27-year-old from Waiqori Village on Oneata said it had been a quiet festive season for him with continued training and spending quality time at home with the family.

“My family has always been a strong pillar of support and with a long road ahead every time with them is important.”

Reflecting on 2020, Seci said the journey had been immense.

“The Nabua Broncos had a strong campaign last year in the Vodafone Cup, and for me personally to have been selected for the Eastern Blues side for the Vanua State of Origin, in all three matches and finally selected in the Kaiviti Silktails for 2021.

“I thank the Almighty for the talent and the strength,” he said.

Seci said named alongside a lot the best of Fiji’s rugby league players had been humbling but means more dedication.

“There are a lot of good local players selected and all deserve a spot, now it’s just about how deep you can dig.”
