The Fiji National Provident Fund (FNPF) is trying to locate over 1000 members whose land titles remain in its custody.
In a statement issued yesterday, FNPF said it has begun releasing property titles that it has held in custody for these members for over a decade now. It said the members had accessed their housing eligibility before the FNPF reforms in 2011.
“Prior to the 2011 reforms, the FNPF placed a charge on properties for members who accessed their housing eligibility. However this practice was revised in the FNPF Act 2011,” it stated.
FNPF chief executive officer Viliame Vodonaivalu said the fund has published the names of members whose property titles are still in its custody.
“There are more than 1000 members whose property titles still remain with the fund.
“We have tried to contact these members in the past but have not been successful because their contact details are no longer valid and they no longer reside in the addresses we have on record,” Mr Vodonaivalu said.
“We have managed to return some but have exhausted all avenues in our attempts to reach the remaining title holders. We hope that by publishing their names, these members will come forward to claim their titles.”
He said eligible members are encouraged to apply for the return of their titles and the advice to members is to familiarise themselves first with the requirements for the title release and to submit the necessary documentation to facilitate the release process.
“A detailed list of members whose titles are currently in the fund’s custody is available on the website and at fund offices around the country,” FNPF stated.
“Under the FNPF Act 2011, it is a criminal offence to provide false information or documents. FNPF urges all eligible members to engage in the process with honesty and integrity to avoid any legal consequences.”
