The Fiji Navy has suspended active search operations for the missing persons at sea following an extensive multi-day effort involving both aerial and surface assets.

In a statement, the Navy said the decision came after 48 hours of intensified searches following the discovery of the missing fibreglass boat, and a comprehensive review of all operations conducted over the past week.

Authorities said the move was based on factors including the wide areas already covered, prevailing weather and sea conditions, drift analysis, survivability assessments, and all information gathered during the search — including reported sightings, floating debris, and the recovery of the semi-submerged vessel.

Search efforts involved Fiji Navy and Water Police vessels, defence-chartered aircraft with Navy air crew, locally supported air assets, and assistance from regional partners such as the Royal New Zealand Air Force. Support from local communities, maritime operators and the public also played a key role.

Despite the масштаб of the operation, no survivors have been located and no credible leads have emerged.

While active search operations have been scaled down, authorities stressed the case remains open. Monitoring will continue, and operations may resume if new, credible information is received.

The Navy expressed gratitude to all those involved, particularly RCC New Zealand and the Royal New Zealand Air Force, and extended condolences to the families of the missing.

Authorities also renewed calls for maritime safety, urging all mariners to properly prepare before voyages, carry safety equipment, and share travel plans.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Fiji Rescue Coordination Centre on 1539 or report sightings to the nearest police station or maritime authority.
