The Judicial Services Commission (JSC) has advertised the position of Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), inviting applications from suitably qualified local and overseas candidates to head Fiji’s independent prosecuting authority.
According to the vacancy notice published today, the successful applicant will exercise the constitutional powers of the DPP under Section 117 of the Constitution, including instituting and conducting criminal proceedings, taking over or discontinuing criminal prosecutions initiated by others, and intervening in proceedings that raise questions of public interest affecting criminal prosecutions.
The DPP will also have authority over all staffing matters within the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, including employment conditions, appointment processes, salaries and allowances within the approved budget, staffing establishment, and disciplinary action against employees.
To be eligible, applicants must be admitted as legal practitioners in Fiji or another country recognised by law and possess at least 15 years of post-admission legal experience, with substantial knowledge, skills and experience as a senior trial lawyer.
The Commission is also seeking candidates with three to five years of senior management or supervisory experience, strong strategic leadership, proven people management abilities, and an unblemished professional record.
Applicants must demonstrate expertise in integrity, accountability, transparency and anti-corruption principles, strategic planning, financial management, budget implementation and human resource management.
The appointment will be made by the President, acting on the recommendation of the Judicial Services Commission following consultation with the Attorney-General, as required by the Constitution.
The JSC says an attractive salary package will be offered to the successful candidate.
Applications close at 4:00 pm on Friday, 24 July 2026, and late applications will not be accepted. Applicants are required to submit an application letter, curriculum vitae, academic qualifications, practising certificates, certificates of good standing, proof of citizenship and passport-size photographs.
The position is open to both local and overseas applicants.
