VONU, a popular local beverage, once again stood alongside the Mamanuca Environment Society (MES) on World Turtle Day as part of its long-standing commitment to marine conservation.

World Turtle Day is a reminder of the challenges marine life continues to face, but also of the power of collaboration-between communities, conservationists and businesses that choose to act with purpose.

In a statement, VONU said the initiative was in support of an ocean conservation awareness event at the Castaway Island Resort focused on the protection of Fiji’s endangered sea turtles.

“Named after the vonu dina, the Fijian term for sea turtle, VONU has for several years supported the society and its sea turtle conservation project, a program dedicated to the monitoring of nesting turtles, education of island communities and promotion of responsible marine tourism across the Mamanuca Islands,” VONU stated.

Last week’s World Turtle Day celebration included marine education sessions, beach clean-up, and conservation awareness activities, bringing together resort staff and guests.

Society project manager Marica Vakacola says the vonu dina is a treasured part of the ecosystem.

“Thanks to the ongoing partnership with VONU, we’re able to keep vital conservation work going, not just during big events, but throughout the year in communities across the Mamanucas,” she said.

Paradise Beverages general manager Mike Spencer said the company had proudly supported VONU for years along with a commitment to protect Fiji’s natural environment in meaningful ways.

“This partnership with MES is one we value deeply. It represents our belief in being part of long-term, grassroots environmental work,” he said.
