Members of the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua team took time out from their training schedule to conduct community programs yesterday.
Hooker Zuriel Togiatama, halfback Peni Matawalu and Selestino Ravutaumada visited Namaka Public School to engage with the Get Into Rugby (GIR) PLUS clinic with the students.
Team Up which is the Australian government’s sport for development program in the Asia-Pacific presented the program.
More than 124 students from seventh and eighth grades participated in tag rugby.
Team Up Communications specialist Aaron Ballekom said GIR PLUS was delivered by Oceania Rugby and Fiji Rugby and supported by the UN Women Fiji Multi-Country Office, ChildFund Australia, Rugby Australia, and the Australian Government through them.
“The program is aimed at embedding life skills learning with rugby union to promote positive behaviour, gender equality, and prevent violence,” Ballekom said.
