HOLY Trinity Primary School eagerly ventured into the Get Into Rugby Plus Festival, a primary school rugby event that celebrated young sporting talent against the backdrop of the infusion of values and sports at Bidesi Ground in Laucala Bay, Suva earlier this week.
GIR plus coach for the school, Ana Sorovi expressed the enthusiasm of the team in coming to the one-day event.
“We’re looking forward to attending this festival, it’s something new for them and even for parents as well,” Sorovi said.
“In order to gear these girls up in the competition, it’s not a competition, it’s getting into delivering and demonstrating the rugby rules, the DRIPS rules, and not only into the field of play but into their life-learning experiences too in school and the community as well.”
The DRIPS rules in question are an acronym that stands for discipline, respect, integrity, passion, and solidarity which is a core component of the GIR Plus program in helping to drive home the aim of integrating sports and essential values for players on the field.
Sorovi said the team had prepared based on about 16 skillsets devised to be absorbed into their classes and allowed them to impart it effectively to the players.
Meanwhile, the Holy Trinity like the other participating schools, went home with a commemorative trophy after games were halted indefinitely because of heavy rain.
