Year two and five students of Dilkusha Girls School have been studying outside in the school hall since the beginning of the school term, said the Divisional Superintendent of the Indian division of the Methodist Church, Reverend Immanuel Reuben.

He said the girls have been moved to the hall for their safety after the three-storey building, which holds both Year 1 and Year 5 streams, has been found to have a weak foundation.

“The passage is collapsing as well,” Mr Rueben said.

“The Ministry of Education has sent engineers to take a look and is currently gathering the reports.

“We are awaiting their report, so we may know how to proceed.”

Mr Reuben said some students have been moved to the library and computer lab, while the rest are outside in the open school hall.

Permanent secretary for Education Selina Kuruleca said they were looking into the issue.

“We’re sorting out the problem,” said Ms Kuruleca.

“In the meantime, we have set up a marquee for the girls.”
