The Fiji Deaf Rugby 7s Team returned home on Wednesday night, basking in the glory of a gold medal from the 2024 Australia Deaf Games held last weekend.
Their exceptional performance included a dominant victory over NSW, with a staggering scoreline of 61-0. In a subsequent match, the Fijians once again showcased their prowess, securing the gold medal with a convincing 57-0 win against NSW.
Amid the rugby triumph, Koleta Dravuni stood out as one of the standout athletes, receiving the prestigious Games Athlete of the Year Award.
Minister for Youth and Sports, Jese Saukuru congratulated the team for their achievement.
“On behalf of the Honourable Prime Minister, your Coalition Government, and the people of Fiji I extend a warm welcome to our Fiji team returning from the trip 2024 Australia Deaf Games. It is with immense pride that we receive you back here on our beloved shore. Today we endeavour to celebrate the remarkable achievements of our athletes,” Saukuru said.
Saukuru also congratulated the women’s team for creating history, by participating in their first game. He urged the players to share their knowledge and experiences.
“As you return to your communities, I urge you to share your experiences and inspire others to pursue their dreams.”
