SARU Dragons Rugby League Club president Tomujani Koroi says the club’s growing contribution to the Fiji Bati pathway reflects the development and support provided within the club.
Saru Dragons fullback Senivalati Vunibola Jr is among the players selected in the extended Fiji Bati 40-member extended squad for this year’s Rugby League World Cup, giving the Lautoka-based club another opportunity to showcase its player development program.
Speaking a day prior to the grand final against Navy Albatross, Koroi said the selection of Vunibola was an achievement the entire club could be proud of.
“Without the support of the whole club, without the development, this opportunity wouldn’t have come up,” Koroi said.
“We’re so fortunate that Vunibola have been selected, and we thank the FNRL for identifying his talent.”
Koroi believes the club’s role goes beyond producing players for its own competitions, with Saru Dragons determined to provide a pathway for its players to reach the highest level.
He said the club hoped its performances in the Vodafone Cup final against Navy Albatross last Saturday would provide an opportunity for more of its players to catch the attention of national selectors.
“I hope that after the Vodafone Cup final against Navy Albatross, I’ll have a couple more boys in the Fiji Residents squad,” he said.
Koroi has urged the players to remain focused on their performances and continue working hard for opportunities at representative level.
