Former Supervisor of Elections says the court’s decision to acquit him has vindicated his position and exposed weaknesses in the prosecution’s case.
Speaking outside court following the ruling by , Saneem said the judgment had clarified the facts and law surrounding the matter.
“Justice Temo has really clarified all the positions, the facts and the law. There had been a lot of bush lawyers talking about this case and a lot of commentary by people who don’t understand the facts.”
Saneem said the court’s decision was based on evidence, which he claimed never supported the prosecution’s case.
“The decision of the court is based on evidence, and the evidence from day one was not in favour of the prosecution. As the court has pointed out, this was a case that should not have been brought in the first place.”
He also criticised the conduct of investigators during the early stages of the case.
“It’s rather ridiculous. I was kept in the CID cell for four nights. We told them repeatedly we could have come back on Monday for them to charge and produce us, but there was a lot of ego at stake.”
Saneem said the ruling highlighted what he described as prejudice and misinformation surrounding the proceedings.
“A lot of these things now show you how prejudicial and how maligned everybody was in relation to these proceedings. The court has really prevailed with this relief this year.”
Saneem and former Attorney-General were acquitted of the charges following the court’s ruling.
