Sandeep ‘welcome into the country’

Sandeep Singh is an investor, and like any investor, he is “welcome to come into the country and look around”, says Deputy Prime Minister and Trade Minister Manoa Kamikamica.

On Wednesday, Mr Singh, as head of the Macau-based David Group Fiji casino project, announced plans by the group to invest $2 billion in, among other things, a casino and a 1000-room 7-star resort in Nadi.

When approached the same day, Mr Kamikamica said while Mr Singh’s announcement was all part of the investment process, the final decision on a casino being established in Fiji would be the prerogative of the Cabinet.

“Ultimately, the Cabinet will make a decision and we are nowhere close to making that decision,” he said.

“So, it is important that that’s made clear.”

Mr Kamikamica said the Government had a responsibility to look at all investors.

“But there is no official position from the Government on casinos.
