Fiji’s leading professional Sam Lee will be leaving for greener pastures this month with an aim of making it big on the Asian Tour.
Lee won the inaugural Fiji Professional Golfers Association (Fiji PGA) Tour Order of Merit title last year despite spending a couple of months in the US.
The 31-year-old turned professional in 2015 after winning majority of the major amateur tournaments in the country in 2014.
He made his pro debut at the Holden New Zealand PGA Championship at the Remuera Golf Club in Auckland.
Lee led the pro team to victory during the recent Temo Consulting Professional versus Amateur Challenge at the Denarau Golf Club Course in Nadi.
He also bagged the inaugural Vuksich and Borich-sponsored Fiji PGA Championship at the same venue last month.
Lee, who still has his status on the Asian Development Tour, said it was time for him to move on.
He said he may be based in Asia for some time so it would be hard to return to Fiji.
“I’m going to play in Asia but I haven’t decided where I will be based,” Lee said.
“It could either be in Malaysia, Thailand or Singapore. I still have my Asian Development Tour status. My first tournament will probably be in India at the end of this month.
“Asia is a big place so there will be a lot of travelling. But the full schedule is not out yet so I don’t know how busy I will be. I’m going to base myself there for a year or two.
“It will be hard to come back here. My goal is to get on to the main Asian tour.”
