Tracy Salthouse claimed top honours in the ladies division at the 27th Vonu Pro-Am Golf Tournament, capping off a successful weekend of competition at the Denarau Golf & Racquet Club yesterday.
Salthouse was thrilled with her victory and praised the sport for the opportunities and enjoyment it continues to provide players of all ages and abilities.
The tournament brought together professional and amateur golfers from around the country and marked another successful chapter in one of Fiji’s longest-running golf events.
Speaking during the prize-giving ceremony, Fiji Professional Golfers Association president Vikrant Chandra acknowledged the continued support of tournament sponsor Vonu, which has played a significant role in the growth of professional golf in Fiji.
“Thank you very much for your support. For those who have not been following the media, this is the 27th edition of the Vonu Pro-Am, so a big round of applause for that,” Chandra said.
“It obviously takes a lot of effort and on behalf of the PGA and its members, we cannot thank the Vonu team enough for its generous support of the professional game.”
Chandra said this year’s tournament featured a substantial increase in prize money for the professional division, highlighting the sponsor’s commitment to developing golf in Fiji.
“This year we’ve had the prize money increase drastically for the professionals, and for the two days we played for $9,000,” he said.
He added that the continued support from sponsors was crucial in helping local professionals compete regularly and improve their standard of play.
The two-day tournament once again showcased the growing strength of golf in Fiji, with strong participation across all divisions and an exciting finish at Denarau.
