Salt, Qoro to select 18 schoolgirls for NZ tour

FIJIANA Fiji Auckland New Zealand (FANZ) manager Mela Druwani believes coaches Leah Salt and the Gabrieli Qoro will have a hard time selecting the final training squad of 18 to tour New Zealand next year.

With the Auckland Fiji Community Netball association registered to compete at the Trans-tournament scheduled for May next year, president Liviana Hide and coach Salt will select 6 from the pool of 18 to travel and combine with a selected group of six from Auckland to compete in the annual tournament.

Druwani said there was a great turnout at the trials held at the USP gym yesterday and that all had possessed unique qualities.

“The girls competed in August and we selected the best and this is another level of competition all together so we are excited to see the outcome of today’s session,” she said.

She added that the support from the parents has been overwhelming contributing to the turnout.

“A lot of the parents know what opportunities are available for these players which is why they have turned out in numbers,” she said

Druwani said that the squad of 18 may all get to travel should the association be financially sound to support the tour to New Zealand.

“If they travel the remaining 12 will be part of local competition in New Zealand and so they will have the exposure that is need,” she said
