SAINT John’s College Cawaci has been crowned the Girls Overall Champion of the Fiji Secondary Schools Hockey Tournament after winning both the Under-16 and Under-19 girls titles at Nadovu Hockey Ground in Lautoka yesterday.
The achievement sparked celebrations among the Cawaci team, with Under-16 team manager Lusiana Hawili dedicating the success to God and acknowledging the unwavering support of parents, former students and supporters.
Hawili said the journey from Ovalau had not been easy, but the team remained determined throughout the tournament.
“I would like to give all the glory and thanks to Almighty God for giving us the strength for this journey. It wasn’t an easy journey coming all the way from Ovalau,” Hawili said.
She also praised the parents, ex-scholars and supporters who continued to rally behind the players throughout the competition.
“We would like to thank them for all their support rendered to the girls and the boys,” she said.
Hawili said the team was overwhelmed with joy after securing both girls titles and bringing the trophies back to Ovalau.
“We are just overwhelmed to be taking back both the Under-16 and Under-19 girls back to Ovalau. It’s a celebration here and we are just so happy. Our joy cannot be explained,” she said.
The double triumph marks a memorable campaign for Cawaci, with the school proving its strength across both age grades to claim the overall girl’s championship.
Meanwhile, in the boy’s division, Tilak High School defeated Marist Brothers High School 2-1 in the Under-16 final while MBHS Under-19 boys secured a well-earned 1-0 victory over Dilkusha Methodist High School.
