CREW of the Royal Australian Navy ship, HMAS Sirius took time out from their schedule yesterday to conduct community work at the Pearly Gates Home in Domain, Suva.

Royal Australian Navy’s Lieutenant Commander Macinty Winner said the works conducted at the home was a way in which they could give back to the community.

“Ourselves including Fiji Navy have come together to do some work at the girls’ home and we see it as giving back to the community,” Lt-Cdr Winner said.

He said they hoped their visit would also empower the girls at the home as most of the high ranking officers of HMAS Sirius were females.

HMAS Sirius and its crew members are visiting the Pacific region as part of their six months comprehensive program.

Ministry for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation’s assistant director child services unit Ela Tukutukulevu commended the work carried out by the team.
