About 98 households of Drekeniwai Settlement in Nasaibitu Village, Wainibuka in Tailevu have access to safe and clean drinking water on Wednesday.

This follows the commissioning of a new rural water project on Wednesday by Public Works and Transport Minister Ro Filipe Tuisawau.

The project was implemented by the Water Authority of Fiji and funded by the Government for $151,000.

“Drekeniwai Settlement in Nasaibitu Village is quite a big village so as the water project and some of them have expanded some village boundaries and settlements,” Ro Filipe said.

“The water project is also connecting them. When you look at the projects, these are not huge multi-million projects and they impact the people at the village level.”

Ro Filipe said the impact of this initiative extended far beyond the pipes and reservoirs.

“Let us uphold and safeguard this resource, ensuring its sustainability for generations to come,” he said.
