FIJI Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee (FASANOC) in conjunction with Save the Children Fiji and Damodar Group of Companies is organising the Olympic Day Fun Run as part of the celebration of the founding of the Olympic Movement.

The Olympic Day Fun Run is billed to be held on June 29 starting from the Damodar City Car Park in Suva.

FASANOC joins 206 National Olympic Committees every year in celebrating Olympic Day to commemorate the founding of this worldwide Olympic Movement.

FASANOC chief executive officer Lorraine Mar said the event would be open to all members of the community.

“The Olympic Day Fun Run, a community event open to all runners, walkers, children and families, will start from the Damodar City Car Park and have a turnaround at Vuya Rd on Queen Elizabeth Drive,” Mar said.

“This is a six kilometre route, a move from the normal eight kilometre route to encourage families and children to come out for a morning of physical activity along the scenic Queen Elizabeth Drive.”

The event counts as a charity event which will collect funds for Save the Children Fiji organisation.

“The entry fee for students remains at $1 per student while the adult entry fee has been set at $5 per person of which $3 will be given to the Save the Children Fiji.

“In addition to the Olympic Day Fun Run, the event will include information booths hosted by Save the Children Fiji and its partners, as well as FASANOC’s Voices of the Athletes program and national sports federations,” said Mar.

Save The Children Fiji program manager Shairana Ali said the event was a family oriented and open event which was expected to attract many participants.

“The Olympic Day Fun Run is a great activity and with great participation for Suva Marathon runners which is a week after our event.

“We believe with the telecasting and publicity, running will be high and we hope to see some new and budding runners join us on the day.

“The event will also feature blood drives from Sai Clinic, medical screenings and a dance-a-thon competition which will be hosted on the day.”

Registrations are now open and entry forms are available at the Fiji Olympic House and outlets at Damodar City Complex.
