Lami High School continued its dream run in the under-19 grade of the Vodafone Super Deans and is set to dazzle in the semi-finals this weekend.

The underdogs caused a major upset in the quarter-finals last Saturday, beating defending champion Ratu Kadavulevu School 11-5 in front of passionate fans and supporters.

It was the first time after 14 years that the school’s U19 side reached the national quarter-finals, and the team has now taken a step further.

Lami had to do it the hard way, fighting from the playoffs to confirm its place as the third-seeded team from the southern zone.

“We have proven ourselves,” team manager Adi Lina Rogacala stated.

“God is the pillar of this team. I was so emotional knowing that we won not through our strengths but through God who has been with us since the beginning.”

Featuring students who are in vocational studies at Lami High, the team showed resilience, faith, unity, and a pure hunger for victory in the face of a school considered a giant in secondary schools’ rugby.

“We thank RKS for a great game. They were the champions, and the match was like a final for us.

“From here onwards, we know we have beaten the champions of this grade so are looking forward to the semi-finals. The coach will work on what needs to be improved and we will come prepared,” she added.

Lami High will face Ratu Navula College in the semi-finals on Saturday.

Ratu Navula thrashed Nasinu Secondary School 30-7 in their quarter-final clash.

Naitasiri Secondary School will battle Queen Victoria School in the second semi-fina
