THE McDonald’s Fijian Drua Women will have to wait for Rugby Australia to officially confirm the venue for their Super Rugby Women’s semi-final after sealing 50-17 victory over the Queensland Reds in Brisbane on Saturday.
Fijian Drua general manager commercial Shane Hussein said the venue had yet to be confirmed, with Rugby Australia expected to make the official announcement.
“Not yet. Have to wait for Rugby Australia to officially announce it. They’ll do it Sunday evening,” Hussein said.
The Drua earned the right to host the knockout clash after producing one of their best performances of the season, overpowering the Reds with a seven-try display.
Head coach Mike Legge was delighted with the result, saying the side’s improved starts had played a key role in the convincing victory.
“I’m very happy.
“We have been working in the last two to three weeks on our starts and continuing to build pressure and keep the pressure on, and the girls did that,” Legge said.
While pleased with the performance, Legge admitted there were still areas to improve.
“There are a few areas I was not happy about. We let them score a few soft tries, but I’m glad and ecstatic.”
The Drua coach also praised his players’ defensive effort.
“We have worked really hard on it and the girls defended well. Overall our attack was really good.”
Flyhalf Varanisese Qoro starred once again, claiming Player of the Match honours after scoring a try, landing six conversions and adding a penalty.
The Drua’s other tries came through Verenaisi Ditavitu, Litiana Vueti, Sulita Waisega, Aqela Raitubu, Tiana Robanakadavu and Josivini Naihamu.
Legge also acknowledged the strong support from the Fijian community in Brisbane.
The official venue and kick-off details for the home semi-final are expected to be confirmed by Rugby Australia on Sunday evening.
