One of the country’s biggest tourism operators Rosie Travel Group, has received 6000 bookings.
This was revealed by managing director Tony Whitton.
“We have waited close to 630 days for this day to come and I think it is an important milestone as a country because we have been patient for over a span of two years,” he said.
Mr Whitton said the tourism industry was not complaining, “we take the blows as it comes, we still remain optimistic and we still find opportunities”.
He said during the pandemic, they had gone from 600 employees to 60 employees.
“What is good now is that we are slowly bringing back our employees, and probably 200 are now called back.”
He said one of the things that came under notice was that the booking patterns show people were travelling more as groups.
“They are travelling more as families and Fiji is sending that message that you can come here in a safe, highly vaccinated market and find hotels and people that are renowned for their warmth and friendliness,” said Mr Whitton.
