Ratu Kadavulevu School claimed the Roger Fatiaki Shield with a 22-14 victory over Church College Fiji yesterday, in a hard-fought encounter held as part of the school’s 50th anniversary celebrations.

RKS made a strong start to the match, crossing for the opening points before maintaining its composure to take a 12-10 lead into the halftime break.

Despite trailing by just two points at the interval, Church College Fiji created several scoring opportunities but was unable to convert them into points. Missed chances proved costly as RKS capitalised on its opportunities and extended its lead in the second spell.

The host school Church College continued to apply pressure after the restart, producing a disciplined performance on both attack and defence to keep Church college at bay.

Although Church Colllege showed determination throughout the contest and threatened the RKS defence on several occasions, handling errors and an inability to finish promising movements denied the side any chance of mounting a comeback.

RKS, meanwhile, remained patient with the ball and made the most of its scoring opportunities to seal the 22-14 victory and retain the Roger Fatiaki Shield.

The annual fixture holds special significance for Lelean Memorial School as it forms part of the celebrations marking the school’s 50th anniversary. The match once again drew strong support from students, old scholars and rugby supporters, highlighting the long-standing rivalry between the two schools.

While RKS celebrated another successful outing, LDS will take positives from its performance despite the result, particularly the opportunities it created against a quality opponent. The match also served as a fitting occasion to commemorate five decades of Church College’s history and contribution to education and school rugby in Fiji.
