RATU Navula College under-18 side brought down the curtains on the Fiji Secondary Schools Western Zone Deans Competition final at Lawaqa Park yesterday with a breathtaking 18-6 win over Cuvu College.
RNC also dominated the U17 and U19 grades. The Nadi-based school showcased their prowess by defeating Natabua in the U17 grade with a close 23-19 win and continued their dominance by beating Nasikawa Vision College 27-7 in the U19 grade.
Ratu Navula U19 coach, Tevita Bale, spoke of the importance of the win in their rebuilding phase. Reflecting on their loss in last year’s U18 semi-final at the same venue, he highlighted the team’s resolve to avoid repeating past mistakes.
“It’s rebuilding phase for Ratu Navula and this is the same venue where we cried last year and we don’t want to repeat that this year,” Bale said.
In the U18 Raluve final, Natabua High School defeated Jasper Williams High School 22-17.
Natabua team captain and prop, Filomena Tikoinavuso, acknowledged Jasper for their strong performance.
“We thank Jasper for the good defence game they gave us and we want to dedicate this win to the school, our supporters and families,” Tikoinavuso said.
In other results, Ba Provincial Institute won the U16 grade after defeating Ba Methodist High School 18-10, while in the Raluve category, Sigatoka Methodist defended their title by beating Votualevu High School 26-10.
Sigatoka Methodist High School also dominated the U15 grade, beating Natabua 35-23, and Ra High School won the U14 grade final defeating Ratu Navula 13-10.
Meanwhile, Marist Brothers High School and Tailevu North College U18 teams have secured their places in the Fiji Secondary School Deans national quarter-finals.
Tailevu North College beat All Saints 22-5, and Marist beat Bua Central College 20-7 at Subrail Park in Labasa yesterday to qualify for the national quarters, which will be held on August 9-10 at HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.
