Rishikul Primary School, the defending champions of the ladies U14 Nasinu primary schools football championship, has successfully defended its title once more. After weeks of preparation, the team’s hard work and sacrifice had paid off.
In a male dominated sport, head coach for the U14 girls’ team, Krishant Mishra shares it has not been an easy journey. From the classrooms to the field, the team has been committed to juggling school responsibilities and sporting activities.
“It has been hard trying to get the girls for training out of school time, but we have managed,” Mishra said.
With nineteen players representing the school in the U14 grade for the competition, the coach is pleased with the progress of the team’s performance over the past weeks of training and days of competition.
“We have nineteen players for the team and there has been so much display of unity and teamwork from the girls. That is how we have achieved excellence in our performance,” he added.
Team management says one of the side’s greatest strengths continues to be the unity shared among the players. The girls have developed a strong bond on and off the field, something coach believes plays a major role in the team’s overall performance and success.
“There’s always teamwork within the team. During the game, they always observe the mistakes, and they follow the things that are told to them during the training sessions and after games,” he said.
Despite the pressure that comes with being defending champions, the team did not only focus on the district competition but also preparing the girls for the inter-district championships.
Competitions at grassroot levels plays a vital role in shaping young athletes into future professional sports players.
